Did you ever try to grow an apple tree from a seed? Learn why the results are less than ideal and how fruit trees are created to combine the best tasting fruit on the strongest root system.
This informative session will include a one-hour presentation, walking tour of the Dow Gardens Orchard led by Orchard Specialist, Chad Gluch, and a grafting demonstration / workshop.
The hands-on grafting workshop will allow students to graft apple trees to take home. The workshop portion will likely extend beyond the two hours allotted. Grafting involves the use of sharp instruments, and grafts are not always 100% successful; you won’t know for sure until the tree starts to form buds (or not) late spring to early summer.
$30.00 per person includes supplies. Registration is required. Masks are recommended for in-person programming.
